This one began with people.
Collective Light is a one-of-a-kind circular wall artwork created from reclaimed LED light bulbs collected slowly over the course of a year. Built on a repurposed mirror base, the work transforms everyday discarded materials into something calm, reflective, and quietly powerful.
What I love most about this piece isn't the materials themselves.
It's how they arrived.
Over many months, people remembered. They noticed. They set bulbs aside. A staff member at Mitre 10 would place particular bulbs on top of the recycling bin because she knew I was looking for them. Conversations happened. Small acts of kindness accumulated. Piece by piece, the artwork slowly became possible.
That's the real story of Collective Light.
At first glance, the work appears simple and resolved. A circular field of light and texture sits quietly within a space. Up close, however, individual stories emerge. Every bulb carries subtle differences in colour, shape, pattern, and history. No two are exactly the same.
Together, they become something larger than any individual component could achieve alone.
