Architectural Wall Art NZ has the power to do more than transform a space—it can transform the way we see it.
About This Artwork
Sometimes curiosity begins with the smallest things.
I found myself staring at an old light fitting one day.
Not because it was beautiful.
Because I realised I'd probably walked past thousands of them throughout my life without ever really seeing one.
It made me wonder...
How many extraordinary things quietly disappear into the background simply because they've become familiar?
Perhaps people aren't so different.
We are often measured by what we've done, the purpose we've served, or the labels we've been given, when maybe our greatest worth has always existed beyond those things.
The Tannery grew from that curiosity.
Created through my practice of Circular Elevation, storied architectural materials, including light fittings and switch plates, are released from the constraints of their original purpose and invited into a new conversation.
The work isn't about forgotten objects.
It's about recognising worth where others see the ordinary.
It's about discovering possibility where others have stopped looking.
Warm tannin, bronze, silver and cream tones create a quiet confidence, while reflective surfaces change gently throughout the day, rewarding discovery every time you pass by. Suspended within a custom floating frame mounted on clear acrylic, the sculpture appears to hover from the wall, reinforcing the idea that transformation begins the moment we choose to see differently.
The frame itself came from a collection I promised one day I would do justice to. Rather than simply surrounding the artwork, it became part of the story, reminding me that even the things supporting us deserve to be truly seen.
Created for collectors who believe the objects they choose to live with should hold both beauty and meaning, The Tannery brings warmth, conversation and quiet confidence into thoughtfully curated spaces.
Perhaps nothing—and no one—deserves to go unnoticed simply because we've stopped looking.
