Why Mixed-Media Art Commands Attention in Contemporary Collections
Mixed-media art gives collectors something a flat reproduction cannot: physical depth, visible craftsmanship, shifting light and a material presence that can only be fully understood in person.
It doesn’t simply occupy a wall. It changes with its surroundings, revealing new surfaces, shadows and reflections throughout the day. The global art-market data supports what the eye already knows: artwork with dimension demands to be experienced.

Contemporary collectors are looking beyond traditional boundaries and building collections across a wider range of materials, artists and disciplines.
The Art Basel and UBS Survey of Global Collecting 2025 found that painting remained the largest individual medium by value, accounting for 27% of high-net-worth spending on fine art. Sculpture, photography and digital art all gained share during the year.
